Industrial Gear Oils — Alpha SP, Optigear, Tribol Ranges

From conventional EP gear oils to synthetic PAO and PAG oils for extended drain intervals and extreme operating conditions.

Quick Answer

Castrol Alpha SP (mineral CKC), Alpha HC (hydrocracked), Optigear BM (CKD-grade EP), Optigear Synthetic A (PAO synthetic) and Optigear Synthetic X (severe-duty synthetic) — covering every industrial gearbox application from extruder reducers and cement-mill drives to wind-turbine main gearboxes. ISO VG 100 through 680 available across the range. Choose CKC for general industrial reducers, CKD for heavy-duty service with micropitting concern, CKE-class synthetic for severe-duty extended-drain applications.

Product Range

Alpha SP 150 / 220 / 320 / 460

Mineral EP gear oil

Industry-standard mineral-based extreme-pressure gear oil. FZG 12 pass, full ISO VG range.

PAG synthetic worm-gear oil

Polyglycol-based oil for worm drives — reduces friction in steel-bronze pairings.

Tribol 800

Heavy-duty synthetic

Synthetic for extreme-temperature and heavily-loaded applications.

Typical Applications

Enclosed industrial gearboxes (helical, bevel, hypoid)
Worm drives (use PAG grades)

Frequently Asked Questions

Alpha SP vs Optigear Synthetic — when do I need synthetic?

Move to Optigear Synthetic when: (1) drain intervals need to exceed 8000 hrs, (2) ambient temperatures swing below 0°C or above 90°C, (3) gearbox has micropitting history, or (4) the OEM warranty specifies PAO. Otherwise Alpha SP is cost-effective and proven.

Can I mix PAO (Optigear) with PAG (Tribol 1710)?

No. PAG and PAO are not miscible — PAG drops out as a separate layer. Always flush the gearbox when switching between the two.
