Castrol Aircol CM (mineral) and Aircol SR (synthetic PAO) cover rotary-screw and reciprocating air compressors, with Aircol SN for piston units and Aircol HV for vacuum pumps. Aircol CM is the workhorse for screw compressors on the OEM-specified drain interval; Aircol SR extends that interval and tolerates higher discharge temperatures. Selection depends on compressor type, discharge temperature, ambient conditions and oil-life expectations.

Only as a short-term measure. Rotary-screw compressors run hotter and have far more oil-air contact than reciprocating units, so a mineral oil reaches its drain point much sooner there — Aircol SR (PAO) is the right economic choice, on the interval the compressor OEM specifies.
Oil oxidation at high discharge temperatures. Switch to diester-based Aircol SN if deposits recur; diester has self-cleaning detergency that mineral oils lack.
