Because operating temperatures are modest (50–70°C in the reservoir), oxidation proceeds very slowly. The governing factor is varnish accumulation and water contamination, not oxidation. Regular patch-testing (MPC) and kidney-loop filtration keep a good turbine oil in spec for decades.
